芦原义信（1918—2003）日本当代著名建筑师。毕业于东京大学建筑系、哈佛大学研究生院，历任日本法政大学、武藏野美术大学和东京大学教授，曾担任日本建筑学会主席、日本建筑师协会主席。1956年成立建筑事务所，其设计代表作包括东京驹泽体育馆、索尼大厦、东京国立历史民俗博物馆、东京艺术大剧院等。收入本书的《街道的美学》和《续街道的美学》集中体现了他以“外部空间设计”为中心的建筑美学思想。
